Softwood lumber prices so far largely unchanged 28/02/2013
n mid-February, no significant price increases have occurred on Germany’s softwood lumber markets yet. After various supplementary purchases in January, sources in the sawmilling industry say domestic demand slackened again perceptibly in the early weeks of February. The main cause of this is the continuing wintry weather and the resultant slow pace of activity in the whole building sector. Sales and earnings problems in the value-adding industry and amongst manufacturers of standard pallets are the cause of reduced production activity in the respective sectors and the ensuing lower softwood-lumber requirement.
