Sweden’s timber export to China to triple in 2013
Sweden, the third-largest exporter of sawn timber globally, expects shipment to China to triple this year from 2012 on rising demand.
Mikael Eliasson, president of Swedish Wood, an industry association, said in Shanghai this week that Sweden is seeking a bigger role in China as wood is increasingly used in buildings and furniture, although its current market share is not significant. Swedish sawn timber exports to China may reach 450,000 cubic meters this year, up from 150,000 cubic meters in 2012. In the first 10 months of this year, China’s wood imports totaled 56.6 million cubic meters, according to industry data.
