Lithuania's timber exports increased in January

Exports of wood and wood products out of Lithuania increased in January, despite an overall drop in the country's international trade, according to figures published today (March 10th).

Data released by Statistics Lithuania revealed exports were down by 15.1 per cent when compared to the previous month, with the overall figure hampered by a 34.4 per cent decline in the volume of petroleum products sold outside the country.

When compared to January 2013, exports declined by 11.1 per cent. Again, it was petroleum products that weighed on the total, falling by 48.6 per cent year on year.

Despite the overall drop, transactions involving wood and articles of wood were up by 19.6 per cent annually, with 81.8 per cent of these products deemed to be of Lithuanian origin.

The country's key export partners in January were Russia, which accounted for 17.6 per cent of the total, Latvia (10.4 per cent) and Germany (8.8 per cent).

In terms of goods of Lithuanian origin, most were exported to Germany (11.9 per cent), followed by the UK (11.3 per cent) and Latvia (9.2 per cent).
