Sri Lankan police seize illegal timber (22 March, 2012)
Sri Lanka’s Special Task Force has arrested 11 people and seized a large consignment of illegally felled timber worth more than one million rupees (£5,000), as well as machinery and tractors.
Teak, sandalwood, palu and katakala logs were among the seized timber at four locations, according to the country’s Daily News. Those arrested have allegedly been involved in an illegal operation using a large sawmill, chainsaws, tractors and lorries.
